Wildfire help by county in Oregon

Oregon does not currently have an active statewide cash grant — the $250 defensible-space pilot is funded-out and the 2026 insurer-mitigation bill did not pass. The real help right now is free defensible-space assessments plus local county programs:

Deschutes County

Bend / Redmond / Sisters WUI; active 2024 fire season.

  • FireFree — free yard-debris drop-off (Project Wildfire + county)
  • Project Wildfire chipping & ladder-fuel reduction
  • Neighborhood Fuel-Reduction Grants $100–$5,000 (community projects, not individuals)

Jackson County

Almeda Fire (Sept 2020, ~2,600 structures in Talent & Phoenix).

  • Strong Firewise USA expansion (Talent, Ashland, Jacksonville)
  • Free OSFM defensible-space assessments
  • Local fire-district chipping (check current dates)
